Here at Expat Intel, freedom and convenience is the name of the game.
So when it comes to carrying a computer around the world you want one that is compact, affordable, powerful, and effective.
If this sounds like what you need than look no further than the chromebook.
Why the Chromebook is the Best Laptop for Expats and Nomads
There are a number of reasons the Chromebooks is a fantastic choice of computer for world travelers, and in my opinion the best laptop for expats. Here are a few reasons why I recommend using one:
Chromebooks are small, which means they can fit in nearly any piece of luggage. Moreover, they usually weigh no more than 2-3 pounds which means you can easily carry them around without having to lug a computer that feels like a brick!
The size is also perfect for working on a plane. We’ve all been there where you’re trying to work on a laptop, but the jerk in front of you lays his seat back. Terrible, I know. But with the chromebooks, especially the 11-inch screens this is less of a problem.
Or if the person in front of you is being nice and doesn’t decide to put their seat back, you can still have a comfortable amount of space to get work done.
These computers can also have 13 hours of battery life! Again, this is a huge convenience not to be running out of battery power when you need it most.
I don’t usually recommend buying cheaper products, but with Chromebooks I don’t feel like I am sacrificing much in the way of quality for price.
These laptops cost less than $200! That’s hard to beat for a computer.
The person who initially recommended I get a Chromebook said that “If it breaks, just buy another one.” While I’d like to avoid it breaking, this is true. Your Mac is going to have problems at some point too, no point throwing money down the drain.
All the work I do on my computer now is done within the scope of Google’s apps. For example, this is currently being written on Google Docs.
I ditched Microsoft Word after my old PC broke and I had to worry about backing up all my documents, transferring them, etc. With Chromebook everything is backed up in Google’s cloud so you don’t have to worry about losing important information.
I can’t tell you how amazing this is for me, and I’m sure it will be for you too.
How to Choose the Right Chromebook
Keep in mind that Google is not making the computers or the hardware. That is done by various different companies such as ASUS and HP. Picking the right Chromebook brand may come down to personal choice if you have a specific preference.
If you are unsure, I really like ASUS. I use an ASUS now and have had a good experience with them. My dad uses them as well and he gives them his approval (For what that’s worth).
This ASUS C201 is a perfect choice for an expat’s computer. It is affordable, compact and powerful. Perfect for any expat!
