It wasn’t until I found myself living in Uzbekistan, former-Soviet country governed by a dictator, that I realized the internet isn’t free everywhere. When I tried to read a few particular websites in Tashkent about current events in the country, I kept being re-routed to the MSN homepage. It took me a while to figure out what was going on.
For now, we can visit nearly any site we want on the internet. But in the future, I am not so sure about that. Moreover, there are already countries like China and Russia that block websites. So whether you’re living in the West, or want to travel abroad, you need a high quality VPN (i.e. a Virtual Private Network).
Why You Need a VPN
If you want to get around some of the aforementioned restrictions a VPN will allow you to do so. What a VPN does is that it allows you to access websites without being restricted by geography. So instead of being blocked by a firewall, you can sneak past it by first connecting to a VPN.
Also, as a frequent traveler, you will often find yourself using public Wi-Fi. Whether it’s in an airport lounge or a cafe, these public connections expose you to malevolent forces. By using a VPN you can protect yourself and have more anonymity than by just directly connecting your computer.
Why NORD VPN is the Best (For expats)
There are a ton of different VPN choices out there. And for guys like me who aren’t tech-savvy, it can be a bit intimidating to not only choose the right VPN service, but to set it up. That is why it is essential to use a VPN service that is reputable and user-friendly.
Nord VPN fits perfectly into this.
It has a large number of fast and secure servers worldwide. It’s a reliable service that is a available to Windows and Mac users. You can also use up six devices through Nord VPN, which means you can connect your phone, tablet and laptop all at once!
Nord VPN is not a budget option. It costs $11.95 per month, or $69 annually, which certainly doesn’t break the bank, but it is relatively expensive for a VPN service. If you intermittently travel, or are based in a country where internet quality, security and freedom is good, Nord VPN may not be necessary. But for those nomads who find themselves in more inhospitable countries, Nord VPN is a must.
If you won’t take my word for it, PC Mag called Nord VPN ‘excellent’ and had it ranked in the top 2 VPN services.
