As a world traveler, you’re fortunate to visit so many amazing places. Why not capture these memories to share with friends and families, if not for your own sake?
Choosing the right camera as an expat or nomad can be tricky. Some DSLR’s are too big and bulky to carry around from city to city.
Some people like using just an iPhone. Although the camera quality is good, it can’t compare with a great camera.
What to Look for In a Camera
There are a number of different factors you should look for in a camera. Here are a few important ones to consider, particularly as a nomad:
- Price: How much money do you have in your budget for a camera? $100? $1000? Your budget is going to be the limiting factor. Ideally you wouldn’t have one and could spend as much money on it as possible, but we know that is not often the case.
- Durability and Size: I have a nice DSLR, but the case is a bit big and can be tough to store in my suitcases. A smaller camera is definitely what I want in the future. If you prefer to travel light, then you shouldn’t buy a bulky camera.
- Quality of Images: If a camera does not take better pictures than an iPhone, it’s not worth buying. Take into account the megapixels and other factors affecting camera quality.
Below we’ve discovered 4 cameras that are perfect for expats. They have some similar qualities, but they all have distinct features that will appeal to different people based on what they’re looking for in a camera such as durability and picture quality.
Check Out These Excellent Cameras for Expats
Here are four great cameras for expats, digital nomads and other world travelers we found based on price, size, and quality:
Canon Powershot ELPH 190 IS
The camera has great qualities outside of its size. It has a 10x optical zoom with an optical image stabilizer so you can take pictures at a distance with ease. The Powershot has built in Wi-Fi to transfer images and videos, which are filmed in high quality 720p. Plus it has camera modes like the ‘Toy Camera Effect’ and the ‘Fisheye Effect’ to create unique pictures.
This camera is definitely affordable for any expat or traveler at just $159.00.
Canon Powershot G9X
The G9X is a more advanced version of the ELPH. It’s just as small as the ELPH, but it packs a lot more power! The 20.2 Megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor will turn any landscape into a brilliant picture. This camera also captures amazing 1080p HD video. Plus, it’s has the ability to take continuous shot of up to 6.0 fps to capture dynamic images.
This camera is definitely an upgrade from the ELPH, but comes at more than double the price. So if you’re on a budget it may not be the best choice. But if high-quality photos from a compact camera are what you’re after this is a fantastic choice.
Nikon D3300 1532
This Nikon comes with an 18-55mm lens for enhancing your shots. It’s got a 24.2 MP sensor and can shoot 5 frames per second. You can take HD videos in 1080p too. It has a 3-inch LCD lens and an optical 3x zoom.
This camera is convenient for travel too. It weights less than a pound due to its sleek carbon fiber design and is no more than 5 inches wide.
Canon EOS Rebel SL1 Digital SLR
This camera’s quality is a bit less than the Nikon D3300. It has an 18 megapixel CMOS sensor and takes four shots per second. Plus, it’s a bit bulkier than the Nikon D3300. These are still quite good, but the Nikon has higher quality overall. If you can find a Canon Rebel for a good price, then it may be the way to go, otherwise stick with the Nikon.
Don’t Let These Memories Pass You By!
Don’t let all your amazing memories go to waste. These four cameras offer quality pictures at an affordable price. However, if they’re not to your liking Amazon offers plenty of other cameras.
